The Call to Worship (responsive)
L: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in God.
C: He made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them.
L: The Lord lifts up all who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.
C: He watches over the sojourners; he lifts up the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
L: The Lord will reign forever.
C: Praise the Lord!
The Anthem: “You Are My King” arr. by Fettke
Prayer of Confession (unison)
We confess that we do not love you with all our heart, soul, and mind. And as far as loving our neighbors as ourselves, that is difficult because we do not have love for ourselves. Forgive us for avoiding and rejecting your love, preferring to stay blind to your goodness rather than have eyes to see how you work in and through your creation. Amen.

A NOTE OF THANKS AND A GENTLE REMINDER: Thank you for remembering that the expenses of our church continue even when you cannot be present for worship on a particular Sunday. Thank you for keeping this is mind before you leave or when you return. Your faithfulness is important and very much appreciated.

THE INVITATION TO THE TABLE
Jesus wishes that all come to His table, none are excluded, those who believe in Jesus are welcome along with those searching, and those needing the assurance Jesus gives.
[Our Personal Response]
I COME, NOT BECAUSE I AM STRONG, BUT BECAUSE I AM WEAK; I COME, BECAUSE I LOVE THE LORD, AND WOULD LIKE TO LOVE HIM MORE; I COME, BECAUSE GOD FIRST LOVED ME, AND GAVE HIMSELF TO ME, IN THE PERSON OF MY LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.
THE PREPARATION / THE GREAT THANKSGIVING PRAYER
Pastor / P E O P L E
The Lord be with you;
And also with you;
Lift up your hearts;
We lift them up to the Lord;
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God;
It is right to give our thanks and praise:
Blessed are you, strong and faithful God. All your works, the height and the depth echo the silent music of your praise.
In the beginning your Word summoned light, night withdrew, and creation dawned, As ages passed unseen, waters gathered on the face of the earth and life appeared.
When the times at last had ripened and the earth grown full in abundance, you created in your image man and woman, the stewards of all creation. You gave us breath and speech, that all the living might find a voice to sing your praise. And to celebrate the creation you call good. So now, with all the powers of heaven and earth, we sing the ageless hymn of your glory:
Congregation: (unison) Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
All holy God, how wonderful is the work of your hands! When sin had scarred the world, you entered into covenant to renew the whole creation. As a mother tenderly gathers her children, as a father joyfully welcomes his own, you embraced a people as your own and filled them with longing for a peace that would last and for a justice that would never fail.
Through countless generations your people hungered for the bread of freedom. From them you raised up Jesus, your Son, the living bread, in whom ancient hungers are satisfied. He healed the sick, though he himself would suffer; he offered life to sinners, though death would hunt him down. But with a love stronger than death, he opened wide his arms and surrendered his spirit.
Congregation: (unison) We praise you, we bless you, we give thanks to you and we pray to you, Lord our God.
Lord we pray that in your goodness and mercy your Holy Spirit may descend upon us, and upon these gifts sanctifying them and showing them to be holy gifts for your holy people, and the bread of life and cup of salvation, the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Grant that all who share this bread and this cup may become one body and one spirit, a living sacrifice in Christ, to the praise of your name.
Congregation: (unison) Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, all honor and glory are yours, almighty God and Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen
THE HOLY SCRIPTURE
Luke 24; 13 ff.
“Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus…talking and discussing with each other. Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him.… As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked on ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, ‘Stay with us…’ So He went in to stay with them. When Jesus was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them, Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him;…”
CONSECRATION OF THE BREAD AND CUP
PROCLAIMING THE MYSTERY OF OUR FAITH
Pastor / P E O P L E
Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith:
CHRIST HAS DIED;
CHRIST HAS RISEN;
CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN!
RECEIVING THE SACRAMENT
Those wishing to receive Holy Communion are invited to come down the center aisle, returning to their seats by the side aisles. The choir will receive Communion first, continuing with the congregation, starting with those in the front pews. Upon reception of the unleavened wafer we will be handing the element from the tray. Please proceed to the tray of cups and take one, partaking in full of the Sacrament. Please discard the cup in the plastic bags available once you’re finished. Holy Communion will be brought to anyone unable to come forward.
YOUNG CHILDREN: Young children may receive Communion at the discretion of their parents who are asked to please explain the meaning of the Bread and Cup, and the sacred nature of the Sacrament. Parents should feel free to bring young children with them, even if the children are not receiving Communion.
OPEN COMMUNION: The Sacrament of Holy Communion in our church is open to all Christians who have confessed their sins before God, and, with God's help, intend to turn away from those sins, living in a way that is pleasing to God and of service to others.

In the Narthex you will find a table
filled with empty shoeboxes.
Please pick one up, fill it and return it to church.
If you have a shoebox at home, fill that and bring it. There are extra brochures to tell you what to fill a shoebox with and how to label it.
Please remember to pray for the child that will be receiving your shoebox.
On Saturday, November 21, the Youth will take the shoeboxes to the distribution site in Traverse City and help pack the shoeboxes into large shipping boxes and load them on a semi trailer.
We are asking you to please return your filled shoeboxes by November 15. We will have a special presentation and prayer on Sunday, November 15. We will pray for the receiver that the Lord may work through them.
We know this year has been financially difficult for many. We are still a country that has more than many. If you can still find it in your heart to help fill a box for a child in a third world country, the child who receives that gift will feel God’s love through your giving. Prayerfully consider this wonderful opportunity to help.
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY
Names will be read in church on Sunday, November 1, 2009. If your loved ones name is missing from our list and you would like them to be included, please add their name.

Guidelines & Actions for Flu Prevention
Note: The following are practices that the Worship Ministry
Team approved as steps to utilize during flu season.
1. Encourage good hygiene for proper cough & sneeze etiquette.
a. Install hand sanitizer stations outside of sanctuary.
b. Place tissue boxes at each end of each pew.
c. Have face masks available for those who wish to use them.
d. Consider alternative ways for collecting attendance data.
2. Limit or suspend ritual actions leading to common touch such
as hand shaking.
a. Ask greeters at church entrance to suspend hand shaking &
remind members of flu restrictions.
b. Encourage greetings instead of physical contact at
“Greeting of Christian Love”.
c. Try Performing the Offertory Collection differently with
ushers leaning into the pews & offering the collection plate
to members rather than passing the plate.
d. Suspend holding hands for the Benediction.
3. Pray for the pharmaceutical industry working to produce
vaccinations, for community health workers, for those
working to care for victims, for those with underlying health
problems, for those caring for the sick.
4. Increase diligence in cleaning of commonly touched surfaces.
a. Ask ushers to wipe down the top of pews at the end of each
service with a Clorox wipe.
b. Ask greeters to wipe down door knobs with Clorox wipes.
